Sharon Rutherford

Sharon Rutherford

Sharon Rutherford, pictured here, was shocked when she was diagnosed as needing an aortic valve replacement.

After the operation, she was told that as well as taking warfarin to prevent blood clotting around her new valve, she would need to visit her GP every two weeks to have her INR levels tested.

This caused a great deal of inconvenience in her busy life and work schedule, and she was becoming increasingly frustrated.

When she saw an advertisement for a CoaguChek® S self monitoring machine she immediately knew it would prove the solution.

'I can't pretend it was easy to persuade my doctors that I could do it.' said Sharon, 'But once they realised I was serious they gave me support and encouragement. Of course, I do need to be aware of how my lifestyle impacts upon my blood levels, and need to take dietary changes, medications etc into account, but I soon got used to it and so much of it is just common sense. I have absolutely no regrets about buying my CoaguChek® S.'
